When my tail was long.....and springtime sprung....many years ago
I only walked at night.....under the city lights.....stop or go
I carved my name in air.....I climbed a thousand stairs.....fast and slow
But I never whistled.....I never whistled at your door
I never will forget.....that night goodbyes were said.....to sail away
In a glass strewn lot.....I touched a youthful heart.....I was afraid
I tried to connect.....I tried to be direct.....but now I know
I never whistled.....I never whistled at your door
I heard you knocking playing on the radio.....the night was open.....but then we shut the door
I remember when.....under a light green web.....of reborn leaves
I paced the avenue.....in search of ancient clues.....and random leads
I was driven by a....silent river which.....laid me low
I never whistled.....I never whistled at your door
