black no sugar

I've lived in the country...and in cities
under an arch of shooting stars
I'll never live in a self-made fortress
made of fear lined prison walls

I used to dream of being a king
in the eyes of society
But I came to realize
that society has no eyes
that see beyond its own disease

I take my detachment
black with no sugar
I take my voodoo
With a grain of salt
I take my counsel...down by the river
And watch the evening's water fall

I take my loving with a shot of whisky
Sometimes I take it...with sugar and cream
But I don't need no stinking airbrush
To hide the lines between the seams

I've been in love...I've been in mighty deep
I've been on deserts made of words
I've been a stranger in a minefield
Where everybody...carries swords

I take my detachment
Black with no sugar
I take my voodoo
With a grain of salt
I take my counsel...down by the river
And watch the evening's water fall
